Using a bar reader will encourage an appropriate balance between accommodation and convergence whilst reading. Ultimately the goal is to be able to read normally at N5 level with both eyes open, initially larger text types will be needed.
Maclure has a bar reading book that can be utilised for a formalised approach, however using standard near vision tools is just as appropriate.
