Upcoming Education Events for Health Professionals
A core mission of Adelaide Orthoptics is to connect with other health professionals in South Australia. This includes our clinical team offering regular education events run from our practice location in North Adelaide – these sessions are 2 – 2.5 hours long, and have a maximum group size of 10 participants.

These sessions have been designed to provide both clinical information, practical teaching and an opportunity to meet the orthoptists, see the clinic space and ask any questions of the team.

Eye Movements for Optometrists – Tips and Tricks

Eye Movements for Optometrists – Tips and Tricks is a small group session working on practical assessment and theory around ocular motility

A small group teaching session focused on skills and assessment techniques around eye movements on patients in clinical practice.

Run by the team at Adelaide Orthoptics, you will meet the orthoptists and then learn about their area of expertise… eye movements. They will demonstrate how you can improve your eye movement testing, show you basic pieces of equipment that can help you along in clinic, plus time for a Q&A at the end.

You are welcome to bring details of cases to discuss should you wish.

Fresnel Prisms – Assessment and Fitting

A session, tailored for optometrists, to talk about how to assess for and fit fresnel prisms

Come and learn about Fresnel Prisms:

  • Mini history lesson
  • How Fresnel Prisms work
  • Suggested conditions for effectively using them
  • Learn how to assess for prism fittings, including some tips and tricks from our orthoptic team to help you get to the correct strength quickly
  • Patient advise about how to clean and maintain prisms
  • Practical session; learning how to fit, cut and stick prisms effectively.
  • Q&A session with our team at the end

An Orthoptists Perspective on Binocular Single Vision (BSV)

A small group CPD session discussing binocular vision/binocular single vision, and how our orthoptists investigate BSV in all ages

The team at Adelaide Orthoptics will talk you through their perspective on BSV during a 2 hour CPD session. We will demonstrate and discuss tests to assess BV and how best to practically apply clinical findings to management of patients.

Opportunity to use a range of BV and Stereotests, plus a practical tutorial on the Synoptophore.

Small group teaching session of 10 or less.

Esotropia: a step-by-step guide

Strabismus is a complex topic: in this session the orthoptists are breaking down esotropia including assessment and differential diagnosis

These CPD sessions are geared towards optometrists and GP’s, and will cover the topic of esotropia over the course of 2 hours.

The orthoptic team will explain their strategies to investigate and manage these conditions, focused on a collaborative care approach with ophthalmologists and optometrists.

Exotropia: a step-by-step guide
