For Referrers

Natalie and Carrie are both highly experienced orthoptists and the co-directors of Adelaide Orthoptics. They both started their careers working for the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK prior to coming to Adelaide to work within SA Health and private practices in 2013 and 2011 respectively. Weirdly Natalie and Carrie worked only 80 kilometers from one another in the UK, but didn’t meet until arriving here and realising how similar they were as both orthoptists and people! That’s when the idea of Adelaide Orthoptics was born over a good cup of Aussie coffee in 2015, but it took many years to come to fruition with our first patient seen in our North Adelaide location in 2017.

Natalie and Carrie both strive to provide high quality, evidence based care whilst also looking to new technologies and techniques to progress their orthoptic practices to the highest level.

Together with our orthoptic colleague Gulsah, the team at Adelaide Orthoptics provide care to patients from across South Australia for a range of eye conditions including: double vision, asthenopia (non-specific eye strain), eye movement disorders, squint, vision problems, field expansion prisms (Peli Prisms) and vision screening for young children. If you would like to learn more about the conditions we treat, please visit the services page.

Our orthoptists work with all ages and abilities. Click to find out more about the team.

Appointment Funding Options

Patients with extras insurance that covers “Eye Therapy” can claim back part of their consultation costs after the appointment. Currently HICAPS is not available for “Eye Therapy” so patients must pay in full prior to claiming back via their insurer.

DVA gold card holders with a valid referral will not pay any costs to attend Adelaide Orthoptics. Please note that we have to gain pre-approval for fresnel prisms, bangerter frosted patches and other consumables, so they cannot be provided at the initial appointment – pre-approval takes approximately 3 weeks to be approved by the DVA at this time.

We see many patients with NDIS plans who can claim part of, or all of, the orthoptic appointment costs via their existing NDIS plan. We also assist patients to improve their plans for the following year, by working with their NDIS planners to incorporate treatment or rehabilitation activities into their future funding.

The majority of our patients are self-funded. Please feel free to call or email the practice to find out the costs for consultations and commonly required consumables.
